Oxnard police have arrested a suspect in connection with the fatal shooting of an 18-year-old woman early Sunday, authorities said Monday.
Danny Oropeza, 19, of Oxnard was arrested about 5 p.m. Sunday in the shooting of Gabriella Garcia, also of Oxnard, police said. He is being held at the Ventura County Jail in lieu of $1-million bail.
Garcia died about 3:30 a.m. Sunday at St. John’s Regional Medical Center from gunshot wounds, authorities said. She was taken to the hospital by friends.
Garcia is believed to have been shot in the 1900 block of San Marino Street, police said. Officers had responded to a call of shots heard in the neighborhood shortly before police were notified that a shooting victim had been brought to the hospital.
The motive is unknown.
