Re “Bush, Kerry Neck and Neck in Survey,” July 23: According to the Times poll, a majority of Americans believe that President Bush’s foreign and economic policies are leading us in the wrong direction.
How, then, is it possible that he’s in a dead heat with his Democratic challenger? This is the genius of the modern Republican politician -- his appeal is based more on image than job performance or his stand on the issues. It’s our civic duty as Americans to vote not just with the heart but with the head.
