Prisons Out of Control

Re “Takeover of State Prisons Is Threatened,” July 21: I was appalled that Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger was making backdoor deals with the prison guards union when he had just received a scathing report from the Corrections Independent Review Panel (which he appointed) of major corruption and abuses in our prison system.

I have lost what little faith I had left that our corrupt, abusive prison system would be fixed. So what if the head of the union taunts us by threatening to sue; let him. It is time to put our prison system in receivership because our legislative body cannot control the union.
