Armstrong Is a Big Wheel in His Eyes

Re “Sixth Tour de France Title Puts Armstrong at Cycling’s Summit,” July 26:
Lance Armstrong has achieved the impossible. Eight years ago he was fighting for his life with lung, brain and testicular cancer. Tour de France sponsors wouldn’t give him a contract and said he was washed up, except an American sponsor, the U.S. Postal Service, which accepted the gamble that he might have what it took to succeed.
Not only did he beat cancer but he went on to become the first to win the Tour de France six times in succession. How did he do it? Through blood, sweat, pain and tears, along with a dedicated mother who stood by him and continually gave him her love and support. I had the feeling that history awaited him in Paris.
For Armstrong, an American dream has come true. Good luck, Lance, and as a 73-year-old avid cyclist, I say you are my hero and my inspiration.
