Former U.S. poet laureate Robert Pinsky, short story master Mavis Gallant and novelist Jonathan Safran Foer were among the winners of literary prizes announced Monday by PEN, the international writers’ organization.
Foer, author of the acclaimed debut novel “Everything Is Illuminated,” was one of three fellowship winners (with Will Heinrich and Monique Truong) for writers working on a second book.
Gallant, a Canadian-born writer, won the PEN/Nabokov Award for “enduring originality and consummate craftsmanship.” Pinsky was recognized as “an American poet at the height of his or her powers.”
