A 17-year-old girl escaped from the car of a would-be kidnapper early Thursday in North Hollywood and, with some friends, drove after the man before he got away, police said.
The friends crashed near an offramp of the Hollywood Freeway as they chased the man’s blue Chrysler PT Cruiser, said Sgt. Tom Toutant of the Los Angeles Police Department.
The incident began about 12:30 a.m., when the man grabbed the girl as she waited for her friends outside her house in the 5200 block of Tujunga Avenue and tried to force her into his car, Toutant said.
She managed to get away just as her friends drove up. The girl got into their car and they drove after the man, Toutant said.
