Several top police officials in the central city of Lodz resigned after officers said they mistakenly fired live ammunition, not rubber bullets, to quell a campus riot, killing a 19-year-old man and injuring about 70 people.
Nineteen people were arrested.
Police said the disturbance erupted when a gang of about 100 men armed with chains, bricks and metal rods crashed university celebrations marking the end of the academic year.
