Double D Appeal Rallies in Nursery

Overcoming a trouble-filled trip, Double D Appeal, a 5-1 longshot, rallied from far off the pace to win the $83,850 Nursery Stakes on Sunday at Hollywood Park.
Making her first start since she won a two-furlong race April 7 at Santa Anita, the daughter of Successful Appeal overtook 9-5 favorite Bella Banissa near the wire in the first local 2-year-old stakes of 2004.
Trained by Jeff Bonde for a partnership and ridden by Victor Espinoza, Double D Appeal ran the five furlongs in 58.06 while winning by 1 1/2 lengths.
Bella Banissa, who was making her first start for the Legacy Ranch and trainer Dave Hofmans, finished 2 1/2 lengths clear of pacesetter and 12-1 shot Kelly’s Princess. Swiss Please, the 5-2 second choice, finished fifth.

Thanks to victories by longshots such as Yogi’s and Warison, who paid $92.60 when he easily took Sunday’s last race, there will be a record, two-day pick six carry-over of $708,235 when racing resumes Wednesday at Hollywood Park.
