Plant flatteners spur fake controversy

Re “Oh, No! Pad People” (May 11): Writer Shermakaye Bass has manufactured a controversy where none exists. The real issue for bouldering is not some imagined dissonance between old school and new, but rather that boulderers and their pads are extremely visible, and the scads of pads flatten the vegetation at the base of boulders. This will be the cause of future access issues.
