Court Condemns Arrest of Business Tycoon

From Times Wire Reports

Russian authorities acted illegally when they detained former Russian media baron Vladimir Gusinksy on suspicion of fraud in 2000, the European Court of Human Rights ruled.

The court’s seven judges ruled unanimously that Gusinsky’s detention in June 2000 violated the European Convention on Human Rights by breaching the “right to liberty and security,” and also broke Russian law. Gusinksy, one of the businessmen known as oligarchs for the fortunes they have made, now lives in exile in Israel.
