LeCroy’s Slam Lifts Twins, 6-5

The Minnesota Twins had only one reserve for Wednesday’s game. It was enough.
Pinch-hitter Matt LeCroy hit a grand slam in the ninth inning to give the Twins a 6-5 win over the Blue Jays at Toronto.
Torii Hunter, Michael Ryan and Henry Blanco singled against Toronto closer Terry Adams (3-3) before LeCroy came to the plate in place of Alex Prieto.
LeCroy sent his first homer of the season over the center-field wall to put Minnesota ahead.
“What was amazing about it was that I was the only guy left on the bench because everybody was hurt,” LeCroy said.
Minnesota left fielder Shannon Stewart sat out because of a left foot injury, first baseman Doug Mientkiewicz is sidelined with a hyperextended lower back and Luis Rivas has a sore groin.
“That’s a big win,” LeCroy said. “Had we lost, it could have turned a good trip into a bad one.”
The Twins finished the trip with a 4-2 record.
Kansas City 5, Texas 3 -- Juan Gonzalez hit a three-run homer against his former team, and Jimmy Gobble held Texas in check at Arlington, Texas.
Angel Berroa and Ken Harvey each hit a solo shot for the Royals, who have six homers in the first two games of the three-game set.
Kansas City began the series with two homers in its previous four games.
Chicago 15, Cleveland 3 -- Frank Thomas had five runs batted in, and Paul Konerko had four to support Scott Schoeneweis at Cleveland.
Chicago’s blowout win may have been costly.
Outfielder Magglio Ordonez and second baseman Willie Harris were injured when they collided while trying to run down a fly ball in the seventh.
They both left the field unassisted, but Ordonez bruised his left knee and Harris injured his left ankle and shin.
Schoeneweis (4-1) hasn’t lost since April 8.
Boston 4, Tampa Bay 1 -- Curt Schilling gave up a run in seven innings, and Manny Ramirez hit a two-run homer to lead the Red Sox at St. Petersburg, Fla.
Baltimore 5, Seattle 2 -- Erik Bedard got his first major league win for the Orioles at Seattle.
Jay Gibbons homered in a three-run seventh, and Luis Matos also connected for Baltimore.
Oakland 6, Detroit 2 -- Bobby Kielty hit two home runs and drove in four runs, and Jermaine Dye also homered for the A’s at Oakland.
