What’s Good for Bush Is Not Good for the U.S.

Re “Cubans Decry Tighter Restrictions by the U.S.,” May 15: President Bush can never get it right. He always puts his own interests above that of this country. He invaded Iraq to avenge his father’s relationship with Saddam Hussein and to secure oil supplies. He has alienated most of our allies by acting as though he alone were in charge of the whole planet. Now he has decided to enforce an embargo on Cuban trade and air travel in order to clinch the Florida vote.

The rest of the U.S. and Cuba must forgo trade and travel so that Bush can appeal to Cuban nationals living in Florida. When do the interests of the American people become a priority? With this administration, I’m afraid the answer is “never.”
