Tiger Errors Lead to Win for the A’s

Tim Hudson was glad to see the Oakland Athletics score a late run, no matter how they got it.
The Athletics took advantage of two errors to break an eighth-inning tie and beat the Detroit Tigers 3-2 at Oakland on Thursday for their fifth win in six games.
“It would be nice to get some runs in a game,” joked Hudson, who improved to 13-1 in his last 19 day games dating to last June. “But it was nice to be there at the end too. I thought it was going to be one of those games.”
Hudson (5-1) referred to his penchant for no-decisions. He has left games with the lead twice this season, only to see Oakland relievers fail to hold it. In 24 no-decisions over the last three years, he has left with the lead 14 times.
“I’m hoping this is the game that turns the tide for Hudson as far as his luck is concerned,” Manager Ken Macha said. “It’s kind of tough when you’re not scoring runs for him and he’s coming out of games with a no-decision.”
In the eighth, Oakland’s Eurbiel Durazo reached base on a fielding error by first baseman Carlos Pena, went to second on Damian Miller’s sacrifice and advanced to third on Mark McLemore’s groundout. He scored when third baseman Eric Munson dived to stop pinch-hitter Billy McMillon’s sharp grounder but threw the ball wide of first.
Texas 6, Kansas City 3 -- Rod Barajas had a three-run double in a five-run second inning at Arlington, Texas as the Rangers ended a losing streak at three. Barajas came into the game in the second inning in place of catcher Gerald Laird, who tore a ligament in his left thumb on a tag play in the first inning.
Chicago 10, Minnesota 3 -- At Minneapolis, Frank Thomas had a season-high four hits, including a three-run homer, and Esteban Loaiza won for the first time in four starts. Thomas was a triple shy of the cycle. After the game, the Twins put outfielder Shannon Stewart on the 15-day disabled list because of an injured right foot.
Seattle 11, Baltimore 0 -- Jamie Moyer threw seven shutout innings and Ichiro Suzuki had three hits and three RBIs at Seattle. Moyer and Ron Villone combined on Seattle’s first shutout of the season, allowing eight hits.
Tampa Bay 9, Boston 6 -- Jose Cruz Jr. had a two-run double in a six-run third inning at St. Petersburg, Fla.
