The old pros

Congratulations on yet another incisive media critique (“Hersh, Woodward Are Still the Best in the Business,” May 16 by David Shaw). I very much enjoyed your article on Sy Hersh and Bob Woodward. As a longtime journalist myself I too am very dismayed at where our profession has been heading.

Where have all the editors gone? They’re supposed to be the gatekeepers, the guardians of the “truth.” Have they abdicated their responsibility? We know that these Follow the Money journalists can’t have their material printed without some scrutiny along the way. Aren’t a lot of the “everyday shortcomings” of the journalists due to the lack of oversight by the editors?
