Elliott Fined in New York

Stewart Elliott, who rode Smarty Jones to victory in the Kentucky Derby and the Preakness, has been fined $500 by the New York State Racing and Wagering Board for falsifying his license application, which he submitted in March.
Elliott also was fined -- $1,000 in Kentucky and $25 in Maryland -- by state authorities for similar violations before the Derby and the Preakness. Elliott answered “no” to a question on applications regarding criminal activity. Elliott pleaded guilty to aggravated assault and paid the victim’s medical expenses after he beat up an acquaintance in 2000.
New York officials said that the fine does not affect Elliott’s riding status and he will be able to ride Smarty Jones in the Belmont Stakes on June 5.
