19 Soldiers Slain in Preelection Violence

Taliban guerrillas killed at least 19 Afghan soldiers in the last three days in Afghanistan’s south in a sharp escalation of violence ahead of the Oct. 9 presidential vote, officials said.
They also said some Taliban members were killed.
