Late Kick Lifts Navy to Win

Geoff Blumenfeld made a 30-yard field goal with four seconds left Thursday night to lift Navy to a 24-21 victory over Air Force at Air Force Academy, Colo.
Navy (5-0) had lost six consecutive games to Air Force before beating the Falcons, 28-25, last season to earn the Commander-in-Chief Trophy for the first time since 1981. The Midshipmen can make it consecutive service academy titles by defeating Army on Dec. 4.
Air Force (2-3) is off to its worst start since opening the 1994 season 0-3. The Falcons’ three losses have come to teams with a combined record of 11-0.

Cornell Brockington rushed for 185 yards and one touchdown and linebacker Alfred Fincher had 17 tackles to lead Connecticut to a 29-17 victory over Pittsburgh in a Big East Conference game at East Hartford, Conn. The Huskies are 4-1, 1-1. The Panthers fell to 2-2, 0-1.

Tennessee Coach Phillip Fulmer said Erik Ainge will start over fellow freshman Brent Schaeffer in the No. 10 Volunteers’ game Saturday night against No. 8 Auburn.... Oregon’s Jordan Carey said he was kicked off the team last week because of a marijuana habit. Carey was Washington state’s Class 4-A prep player of the year in 2002 and one of the Ducks’ top recruits.
