Wild Brain, Miramax in Animation Deal
San Francisco-based animation group Wild Brain Inc. has reached a deal with Walt Disney Co.’s Miramax Film to co-produce computer-animated movies. Under the deal, Miramax and Wild Brain will split the costs of agreed projects, which will be distributed by Miramax and its Dimension Films label over the next three years.
First up is “Opus,” a movie based on the nervous penguin character who appears in the comic strip “Bloom County” by Berkeley Breathed.
The deal comes as Disney is aggressively seeking to strengthen its computer animation business in the wake of its falling-out with longtime partner Pixar Animation Studios.
