An Orange County woman who died in September marked the county’s second fatality from West Nile virus, county officials said Tuesday.
The unidentified 83-year-old was hospitalized in August for encephalitis, said Howard Sutter, a county Health Care Agency spokesman.
She was tested for the West Nile virus, but the results were negative. The agency then requested more testing, which came back Monday as positive, Sutter said.
The death was the 19th attributed to West Nile in the state this year. At least 46 people have been infected with the virus in Orange County.
