The classics are hardy survivors

Re: “Here Today, Here Tomorrow” [Sept. 23]: My favorite classic for the last 28 years has been a pair of Barcelona chairs. Designed by Mies van der Rohe for the 1939 Barcelona World Fair, they are usually sold with black or tan leather cushions. I chose gray wool, which later became very popular.
The chairs have survived a divorce, four moves, several makeovers and my children. You can’t miss with a classic ... especially when you know a good upholsterer.
