Voter Alert hotline on Nov. 2
Mindful of the controversy over the Florida presidential vote count in 2000, NBC News will try to highlight any election day voting irregularities on Nov. 2 with a project called “Making Your Vote Count.”
The network said that it will have exclusive broadcast access to results from the nonpartisan Voter Alert Line, which will let voters call a toll-free number nationwide on election day to report irregularities at their polling locations.
The line will automatically patch callers through to local election offices, as well as let them record a brief description of the problems for use on NBC News.
In addition, NBC’s various outlets will report throughout the day on any problem hot spots that are appearing. The Voter Alert Line is funded by groups including the Common Cause Education Fund, the University of Pennsylvania Fels’ School of Government, the Reform Institute and the Hispanic Voter Project at Johns Hopkins University.
