Tailgating Remedy
Re “Trouble Follows Close Behind,” Oct. 6: The article fails to mention that one remedy for tailgating on freeways is for all drivers to stay clear of the far left-hand lane, unless they are passing slower-moving traffic.
The far left lane -- not the carpool lane, but the one next to it -- was originally designed to allow faster-moving traffic to pass.
Today it seems more drivers view it as just another lane, driving side by side for miles at the same speed as other vehicles and causing a cluster of vehicles no other driver can pass.
The thing to do: Stay to the right.
