From Times Wire Reports
County health officials concerned about the West Nile virus are having trouble eliminating mosquitoes at Laguna Lake because of its impenetrable reeds.
The mosquito population dropped 30% after a helicopter blanketed the lake with a granular insecticide last month, but health department officials said the population quickly returned to previous levels.
Mosquito abatement has worked elsewhere in San Luis Obispo County, the officials said.
West Nile virus spread quickly in California this summer. Nineteen people have died statewide.
