Naughty paddlers sit in detention

Re “Take a Seat and Ride the Wave” [Oct. 5]: The photo shows a novice paddler doing the very thing that caused paddle surfers to be banned to the end of San Onofre State Park. Collisions such as the one about to happen greatly strained the relationship between traditional surfers and paddle surfers. The introduction of a “paddle-only zone” was not based on the growing popularity of paddle surfing but rather on the unfavorable reputation earned by such injury-producing encounters.
