Longtime Sheriff to Retire Before Term Ends

Sheriff Mark Tracy, a three-term lawman, announced Wednesday he will retire on Dec. 1 to spend more time with his family. Tracy, 54, is a 33-year department veteran who led the sheriff-coroner’s office for a decade.
Tracy, who was elected in 1994, recommended that the county Board of Supervisors appoint Chief Deputy Steve Robbins to succeed him through the end of his term, which expires Dec. 31, 2006.
