PITTSBURGH — World champion pairs skater Tatiana Totmianina was released from the hospital Sunday, a day after sustaining a concussion in a fall during the free skating program at Skate America.
Totmianina fell to the ice Saturday night when partner Maxim Marinin was performing a one-handed lift.
Speaking to reporters from a wheelchair at Mercy Hospital on Sunday, Totmianina said she had little memory of anything that happened Saturday, including her accident.
She sported a bruise near her right eye but joked with reporters about the move that led to her injury.
“Actually, it wasn’t something unusual ... but it wasn’t successful,” she said. “How it happened, I don’t remember.... Yesterday, I don’t remember almost anything.”
Her coach, Oleg Vasiliev, said the fall occurred because of a technical error but wouldn’t elaborate.
Larry Jones, the chief of trauma at the hospital just blocks from Mellon Arena, where the accident occurred, said all tests and X-rays were negative.
