On the field, the Seahawks are known for causing turnovers, but off the field, the teams’ fans are the ones who are fumbling their devices.
Smartphone users who are rooting for the Seahawks to win Super Bowl XLVIII are 46% clumsier than users who are rooting for the Broncos, according to a survey conducted this month by SquareTrade, a San Francisco company that sells device insurance.
According to the survey, nearly 25% of fans rooting for the Seahawks have had a cellphone accident within the last 12 months. By comparison, only 16% of fans rooting for the Broncos have had accidents.
SquareTrade’s figures come from a survey conducted after the National Football League’s two conference championships. In total, 5,774 online users were surveyed.

Besides figuring out which fan base is clumsier, another SquareTrade survey discovered some of the top gadget accidents that occur at sporting events.
The top accident is, as expected, users simply dropping their devices while at an event, with 33% of those surveyed saying that has happened to them. More interesting is the 13% of those surveyed who said they’ve dropped their devices in beer. Another 12% said they’ve damaged their devices after throwing them in anger or excitement.
“We think the more passionate the sports fan, the more likely an accident is to happen in the heat of the game,” Ty Shay, SquareTrade’s chief marketing officer, said in a statement.
SquareTrade said its sports accidents statistics come from surveying 4,749 users in January.
