LACMA to feature Comedy Central's Nick Kroll

The Museum of Contemporary Art, which recently launched its Art + Comedy programming initiative, isn’t the only museum turning to humor.

The Los Angeles County Museum of Art, as part of its Film Independent at LACMA series, will screen the first two episodes of the new season of Comedy Central’s “Kroll Show” on Friday night.

The sketch-based show was created by writer-actor-comedian Nick Kroll, the 2013 Breakout Star of the Year at Montreal’s Just for Laughs comedy festival. Kroll, who participated in Jason Reitman’s Live Read series at Film Independent at LACMA, will be present Friday night and will host a conversation after the screening.

There should be much to talk about. As LACMA puts it, Kroll’s show “…circumnavigates the hills (Beverly) and valleys (San Fernando), as its creator star — supported by an able squad of actors — uses the glazed-eye style of reality TV as his canvas. And consequently, Kroll brings his (and our) attentions to the hilariously self-absorbed denizens of the L.A. basin.”

Elvis Mitchell, who curates Film Independent at LACMA, said we can expect more comedy at the museum.

“I love showcasing comedy there,” he said. “The Bing Theater is an intimate, old-fashioned room and comedy plays really, really well there. When the laughter gets going, it’s infectious.”
