2.6 quake hits near Universal City on 20th anniversary of Northridge

A shallow magnitude 2.6 earthquake centered near Universal City provided a wake-up jolt Friday morning for many Angelenos on the 20th anniversary of the devastating Northridge quake.
The earthquake struck about two miles from Universal City at 5:26 a.m. at a depth of .1 miles, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.
The epicenter was four miles from West Hollywood and Beverly Hills and five miles from Hollywood, according to the USGS.

Many residents took to Twitter to find out what shook them awake.
“Well that was a rude awakening only a 2.6 #earthquake but the epicenter I think must have been right under my house and jolted me out of bed :(“ Tweeted @nathenstridge.
“2.6 earthquake epicenter one block from y house. 5:30 a.m. Thanks, Earth.” read another Tweet from @drewfilus.
There have been three earthquakes magnitude 3.0 or greater centered nearby over the past 10 days, according to the USGS.
The Northridge earthquake on Jan. 17, 1994, registering a magnitude of 6.7, killed about 60 people and injured thousands.
