Man shot and killed in Van Nuys; police search for gunman

A 22-year-old man who was gunned down on a Van Nuys street has died from his wounds, Los Angeles police said Wednesday night.
Ramiro Melendez-Lobos was walking southbound on Cedros Avenue at Delano Street when a man approached and opened fire with a semiautomatic handgun, the Los Angeles Police Department said.
Melendez-Lobos was struck with multiple rounds and collapsed on the sidewalk. The attacker ran to an awaiting light gray Honda or Acura and fled westbound on Delano Street, the LAPD said.

Fire Department paramedics pronounced the victim dead at the scene. Anyone with information is asked to call detectives at (818) 374-0040.
Since January 2007, at least 42 homicides have been reported in Van Nuys, according to The Times Homicide Report database.
