Firefighters quickly extinguish blaze in South L.A. home

It took three dozen firefighters only about 12 minutes to knock down a blaze at a one-story home in South Los Angeles early Tuesday morning.

One resident was treated for smoke inhalation, but did not require hospitalization, authorities said. The family dog died in the fire.

The fire broke out at about 7:41 a.m. at the home in the 6600 block of Estrella Avenue in L.A.’s Vermont-Slauson neighborhood, according to Katherine Main of the Los Angeles Fire Department.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
