Boys’ basketball: Price upsets Sierra Canyon, 56-55

Los Angeles Price, a six-time state champion, is starting to play well, and Chatsworth Sierra Canyon found out the hard way on Saturday night. The Trailblazers came into their game with a 15-1 record but left with a 56-55 loss to Price.
Chris Carson made the game-winning shot with less than three seconds left. He finished with 14 points. Point guard Chris Martin had 15 points for Price, which is 13-3 overall.
“It’s January, and the team is coming together and playing smart,” Coach Michael Lynch said.
Deveral Ramsey had 19 points and Ira Lee 15 for Sierra Canyon.
Oaks Christian came away with a 59-58 win over Campbell Hall. Aleks Abrams scored 13 points and had 10 rebounds. Canyon Country Canyon (16-1) defeated Birmingham, 74-48. Dean Hendrix-Davis had 21 points.
Sherman Oaks Buckley improved to 20-0 after a 53-52 win over San Diego Parker that came on a three-pointer by Chase Holliday at the buzzer. Austin Butler finished with 19 points.
St. John Bosco won its fifth consecutive game with a 63-48 win over Modesto Christian. Tyler Dorsey scored 26 points and Daniel Hamilton 18. Cantwell-Sacred Heart defeated Arizona Sunnyslope, 52-44. Joey Covarrubias had 20 points and Andrew Martinez 16.
Gardena Serra defeated Peninsula, 75-62. Westchester defeated Sheldon, 77-55.
Chimezie Metu had 26 points in Lawndale’s 68-60 win over Rolling Hills Prep.
South Gate defeated San Pedro, 69-45. Gerardo Zavala had 22 oints and Cameron Ybarra 13.
Granada Hills routed Granada Hills Kennedy, 54-31. Brandon Dozier scored 18 points.
