The temperature was in the 80s at Pasadena Maranatha on Saturday, where Steve Clarkson and his counselors were training quarterbacks ages 8 to 17. The participants came from 20 states on a tour that will include stops in Philadelphia, Atlanta and San Francisco.
The Southern California stop featured such high school standouts as Travis Waller from Anaheim Servite and Brady White from Newhall Hart. Mater Dei’s next quarterback, Jack Lowary, was there showing off a strong arm.
The most interesting moment was Clarkson working with the youngest aspiring quarterbacks. Clarkson was trying to get them to shout out their name in an authoritative fashion. When he told them how Peyton Manning was getting endorsement offers for yelling out, “Omaha,” they suddenly started shouting a lot louder.
The camp continues on Sunday. UCLA quarterback Brett Hundley and former Oaks Christian and Notre Dame quarterback Jimmy Clausen were among the counselors on Saturday.
