Girls’ basketball: Long Beach Poly, Mater Dei, Windward gearing up for final push
- Share via
In girls’ basketball, Southern California is home to three of the top teams in the state, if not the nation, and Long Beach Poly (13-1), Santa Ana Mater Dei (15-1), and L.A. Windward (13-2) are getting ready for a final push before their expected appearance in the first Southern Section Open Division playoffs.
Windward plays Northern California power Albany St. Mary’s on the road on Monday. St. Mary’s handed Mater Dei its only defeat.
Poly is preparing for a showdown home game against Windward and Jordin Canada on Jan. 25. Mater Dei looks headed to having just one defeat heading into the playoffs and owns a Dec. 21 win over Poly, which makes the Monarchs the likely No. 1 seed.
