Galaxy President Chris Klein among Soccer Hall of Fame 2014 nominees
- Share via
Former national team stars Brian McBride, Clint Mathis, Briana Scurry and Kristine Lilly and Galaxy President Chris Klein, a 13-year Major League Soccer veteran, are among the 27 players on the ballot for the National Soccer Hall of Fame’s class of 2014.
To be eligible for induction on the players’ ballot, nominees must be retired for at least three years but no more than 10. They also must have played in 20 international games for the U.S. or played at least five seasons in an American first-division professional league, making at least one all-league or all-star team.
Among those reappearing on the ballot are Taylor Twellman, a former MLS scoring champion and league MVP, and former Chivas USA Coach Robin Fraser.
Inductees will be decided by a vote of all past and present national team coaches, media members, active MLS and National Women’s Soccer League coaches with a minimum four years experience in a first-division league as well as league and U.S. Soccer executives. Voters can select up to 10 candidates with a player needing to appear on two-thirds of the ballots to be elected.
In addition to the more than two dozen players up for enshrinement, this year’s ballot includes 15 nominees in the veteran category, which is voted on by current Hall of Fame members. Among those nominees are former national team players and MLS-cup-winning coaches Dominic Kinnear and Frank Klopas.
In the builder category, the nine nominees include MLS Commissioner Don Garber and longtime coaches Bob Bradley and Sigi Schmid.
