Clippers’ Doc Rivers won’t be emotional this time against Boston

He probably won’t shed tears this time, but for Clippers Coach Doc Rivers, it’ll still be good for him to face his former Boston Celtics team again Wednesday night at Staples Center.

When the Clippers played at Boston on Dec. 11, the Celtics had small ceremony for Rivers, thanking him for the nine years he spent with the team and for the 2008 NBA championship.

It was an emotional night for Rivers, who cried during the ceremony.

But Rivers doesn’t expect to shed tears Wednesday.

“It’ll be a little different,” Rivers said. “It’s here, where it’s not there. So that’s a big difference. It’s not like there’s a lot of guys left on the team that I coached, so it’s different in that way.”

The main guy left is point guard Rajon Rondo, whom Rivers won that NBA championship with in Boston in 2008.

“Rondo is the guy that I was the closest with because I coached him the longest,” Rivers said. “And I talk to him all the time.”
