F1 legend Michael Schumacher reportedly remains stable in hospital

Michael Schumacher reportedly remained in stable condition in a French hospital Friday following a skiing accident last month that left the legendary Formula One driver with severe head injuries and in a medically induced coma.

Schumacher’s manager, Sabine Kehm, said in an email that “Michael’s condition is still considered as stable,” the Associated Press reported, adding that it was the first time Kehm had not used the word “critical” to describe Schumacher’s condition.

“Michael’s family is very happy and confident with the work of the team of doctors treating Michael, and they trust them completely,” Kehm wrote.

Doctors treating Schumacher at Grenoble University Hospital have not commented on his status since Jan. 6, when they said they still regarded him to be in critical condition, the AP noted.

Schumacher, 45, was injured Dec. 29 while skiing in the French Alpine resort of Meribel. The seven-time Formula One champion hit his head on a rock and, despite wearing a helmet, suffered head injuries that have required two surgeries.

The German driver, who retired for the second time after the 2012 season, won a record seven Formula One championships and holds the career record for series wins with 91.
