The Galaxy on Thursday signed attacking midfielder Stefan Ishizaki, who has spent the last eight years playing for the Swedish soccer team IF Elfsborg.
“Stefan is an excellent addition to our team,” Galaxy head Coach Bruce Arena said in a statement. “He is an experienced player, an exceptional passer and a proven winner.”
Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Ishizaki, the son of a Japanese father and Swedish mother, was born in Stockholm and played with teams in Sweden, Italy and Norway as well as with the Swedish national team.
He scored 48 goals in 183 league appearances with Elfsborg, which also won two league titles during his time with the club, the Galaxy said.
Ishizaki, 31, is one of several additions to the Galaxy this season. The others include forward Samuel Rosa Goncalves, known simply as Samuel, on loan from the Fluminense FC team in Brazil, and veteran forward Rob Friend, who came from the TSV 1860 Munich team in Germany.
