Kings assign goalie Martin Jones to minor leagues

Assured that goaltender Jonathan Quick is fit when he won his first game back after a groin injury, the Kings on Sunday assigned rookie goalie Martin Jones to Manchester (N.H.) of the American Hockey League.
Quick strained a groin muscle Nov. 12. He returned Saturday to make 27 saves in the Kings’ 3-1 victory over the Vancouver Canucks at Staples Center.
Jones had a sensational start as he teamed with Ben Scrivens to fill in during Quick’s absence.
Jones, 23, won his first eight NHL starts -- also his first eight NHL games. He became the second goalie in NHL history to accomplish that, joining Bob Froese of the 1982-83 Philadelphia Flyers. Jones was 8-3-0 with a 1.41 goals-against average, .950 save percentage and three shutouts in 11 appearances.
The Kings have a roster spot open and could recall a forward from Manchester. The most likely recall is left wing Tanner Pearson, given the Kings’ need for scoring from the left side.
The team had a day off Sunday and is scheduled to resume practicing Monday. The Kings’ next game is against the Minnesota Wild on Tuesday at Staples Center.
