Those looking for a fresh San Diego getaway will have a new coastal place to go: Pier South Resort in Imperial Beach. The hotel south of San Diego near the Imperial Beach Pier features 78 suites, a tavern with Baja-Med cuisine and a day spa.
The promise here is chic 620-square-foot suites with ocean views seen from floor-to-ceiling windows. (Who’s going to bother with the 42-inch flat-screen TVs in each room?). The resort, which opened Wednesday, is part of Marriott’s Autograph Collection, which includes the Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas and San Francisco’s Hotel Adagio.
The resort is a new building that stands at the site of the former Seacoast Inn, which was demolished in 2010. Opening rates start at $179 a night plus tax; the hotel’s website shows suites starting at $209 to $239 on upcoming weekends (Jan. 24 and Feb. 1).
Pier South also features the SEA 180 restaurant, a roof-top space with 360-degree views and Dames Day Spa, where guests may order up a salt glow, seaweed wrap or massage. Activities such as surfing, kayaking, hiking, bicycling are available nearby, and the hotel has a 24-hour fitness facility.
